Bob Collymore marries Wambui: How the two divorced their spouses at the same time

Safaricom chief executive Bob Collymore has married his long time Kikuyu girlfriend, Wambui Wamae Kamiru. The wedding was held at an invite-only purple-and white-themed ceremony at a private residence in Kitsuru, on Saturday.

The bride is the Founder of The Art Space, an independent commercial art gallery situated on Riverside Drive in Nairobi.

Social media was on Sunday awash with photos that emerged of a white and purple themed celebration where stars, celebrities and high profile Kenyans joined the couple in celebrating their union.

Photographs show the couple beaming with joy with Collymore wearing a casual, collarless linen suit of white while the bride spotted a knee-length sheath dress. One image showed white petals raining on the couple while another was of the couple cutting an ombre-purple cake.

This is the second marriage for the two – having divorced their spouses some years back. The two have been reportedly dating for a number of years and have attended many social functions together. The Safaricom CEO divorced his wife sometime in 2012 in a drawnout case in the UK, at the same time that Wambui initiated her divorce here in Kenya.

This raised lots of moral questions, but the events were muted from media attention in what appeared like a planned move by the two to be free of marriage at the same time.

The high flying CEO, who enjoys celebrity status, was born in Guyana and lived in the UK appears to have fully made his home in Kenya. In 2012 he was awarded the Moran of the Burning Spear (MBS) in 2012. In a past interview with international press, he said he felt Kenyan. Now I say, ‘me I’m Kenyan, me’,” he is quoted as saying mimicking the peculiar Kenyan way of speaking.

Invited guests who included the Attorney General Githu Muigai, radio personality Caroline Mutoko, Kenya Film Commission’s Chris Foot and talk-show host Jeff Koinange all posted pictures of the celebration that appeared to feature a performance by Musician Juliani.
