Ksh1.5bn hotel opens in Nairobi

NAIROBI – Royal Orchid Hotels Ltd, a hospitality chain in India, has opened a five-star hotel in Kenya’s capital Nairobi valued at Ksh1.5 billion. Hotel Royal Orchid Azure Nairobi has been opened under a management contract with Canon Aluminium Fabricators, the property owner and developer.

Located on Lantana Road, off Rhapta Road in Westlands, the hotel offers 165 well-appointed spacious rooms, an outdoor swimming pool, fitness centre, a lounge bar and a casino, among others. Constructed over two years by Kenyan industrialist Parbat Pindoria through his company, Canon Aluminium Fabricators, the new hotel also features an all-day dining destination with 120 seats offering multi-cuisine signature dishes from around the world; Tiger Trail, an authentic Indian specialty restaurant serving grills, kebabs and Indian classics from the culinary regions of India and 24-hour cafe.

This is Royal Orchid’s second hotel in Africa. The other is Royal Orchid Malaika Beach Resort in Mwanza, Tanzania, which opened in 2013.

Royal Orchid Hotels Founder and Chairman, Mr Chander Baljee, said the group plans to invest $15 million over the next three years to strengthen its presence in East Africa. “We are looking at opportunities to extend our brand to Uganda and Rwanda; we are also in the process of constructing a hotel in Dar es Salaam on a 30-acre parcel of land,” he said.
