DStv sweetens deal for sports fans on Compact

MultiChoice Africa’s has launched a new bouquet service on DStv for its sports fans. The package is an improvement of the DStv Compact bouquet with two additional channels – SuperSport 211 and 212 – which will start airing European football.

This is seen as a move to lure new customers to the mid-range package, which will come at no extra cost.  Competition in the pay TV market has been growing especially after StarTimes won the rights German football, Bundesliga, and local Television stations KTN and K24 got the English Premier League and Italian Serie A.

DStv has raised the stakes as the Euro 2016 is set to kick off in early June. “One of MultiChoice’s key priorities is to put our subscribers’ needs at the heart of everything we do and since these have been tough economic times for everyone, we realized that our customers could see some good news,” said MultiChoice Kenya General Manager, Mr Walingo Chiruyi.

The premium bouquet, which has all the sports channels but costs Ksh9,400, is considered out of reach for most viewers as well as Compact Plus at Ksh6,400. “We are excited we can now deliver the best football action in the world to our Compact subscribers while ensuring that this development doesn’t negatively impact them financially,” added the General Manger.

The two channels – SuperSport 211 and 212 will be dedicated to showcasing the EPL and La Liga. The compact package comes along with it, Supersport Select, Blitz and Supersport 9 East, which airs the Kenyan football league. Having lost the rights to air Germany’s Bundesliga last season, the pay TV provider promises improved products this year ranging from European football to soap operas.

“We have listened to customers’ requests and made a choice to provide great content at affordable prices. Subscribers can continue to enjoy the services even after the European football season comes to a close,” said Auka Gacheo, General Manager, Dstv.

The package will have three live matches in one weekend with repeats of the same 24 hours later.
