A man who was released from prison on presidential pardon on Mashujaa day has been charged before a Nyahururu Court for stealing offering.

Lucas Ngugi Njoroge was charged with stealing Ksh900 from an offering basket in African Independent Pentecostal Church of Africa, A.I.P.C.A church in Ol Jabet trading Centre in Laikipia County. Appearing before Chief Magistrate Judith Wanjala, Ngugi denied the allegations that he scooped the money from a basket into which he was to drop his offering.

The service was interrupted when the congregants pounced on Ngugi arrested him and took him to Ol Jabet Police post. Ms Wanjala granted the accused a bond of Sh. 10, 000 a decision that the prosecuting Counsel Alice Rugut contested.

“The accused has just been released on presidential pardon and if released, he may abscond court sessions,” Ms Rugut informed the court.

Ngugi, who told the court that he was sick, was on Friday released from Nyahururu Thompsons falls prison where he served a sentence for stealing. His efforts to seek the courts bails were thwarted after Wanjala overturned her decision because of the revelation by the prosecution.

The case will be mention on 2nd November, this year. (KNA)
